Small Teachings: The Details

Happy Sunday!

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. Mine was nice and laid back. Sometimes the quiet weekends are the best! And as of tomorrow morning, I am officially 38 weeks! Oh yes, I am counting down the minutes until my baby girl is finally here. Today at church my sister took a photo of my belly.

It truly looks like a basketball is under my dress.

Sometimes its so hard to be patient and wait on my little bundle to arrive.
I explained it to a gal at work this week as this: You have planned a super exciting vacation to the island of your dreams, and you know its coming up within the next month but don't know the exact date. Your bags are packed, bathing suit on and you are just waiting!

It's one of those things in life that you just can't do anything about and you must patiently wait!

Oh how I wish God would just tell me what day and time my little girl is going to be here, so I can put it on my calendar.
It's funny because in life we always want the details. We want to know where our next step will take us, when we will land the job, who we will fall in love with, when bad times will pass...

But God doesn't work that way.

God teaches us to have faith in Him and faith in His word. He gives us His word to make us realize we have to trust Him, follow Him, obey and be faithful to Him - No matter what things looks like.
He doesn't always provide us with the details.
And you know what, if we had all the details, we might just disagree with God's plan.
If he told me the details of my upcoming labor before I got pregnant, I might have told Him - "Well, you know what, nevermind. I'd rather not go through that!" But He knows the perfect timing, and us interfering with His plan just puts our blessings on hold.

Trusting in His word without seeing the blueprint, helps us to realize that He is in control, NOT US.

It's funny, because we know that He always comes right on time, and faith is pleasing to Him. Faith gives us power to believe in all things, strengthens our relationship with Him, and keeps our focus on Him. We grow stronger in Him, knowing that we can do nothing without Him!
A Personal Example:
Last year God led me to changing my career path, although the route he took me didn't make complete sense to me. I was so focused on my career title that I would be giving up and afraid of moving into an unknown territory. He told me He was going to put me in a better place with more flexibility, visibility, and opportunity and it would help me to do a greater thing for Him in the end. Despite my thoughts, I followed His word leaving doubt behind me. Knowing that I had to believe His word.

If I would have had the details of what exactly I would have to endure to get to this new place, I may have told Him - it's not worth it. I may have thrown in the towel before I began. I may have there is no way I can do this. Faith makes us trust in God as all knowing, and not our own beliefs.
Having faith and trusting in Him no matter what has proven to me that God knows what He is doing and He is always right on time. I am growing and learning in my new position and it is teaching me a lot about where my future is going! This new position has proven to do all of the things He told me it would do! In fact, I will have some exciting news in a couple months :)

So, give up on having to always know the details.
Having the details can be distractions to the bigger picture of what is being achieved. I will wait patiently for baby girl to arrive. I will have faith that God knows what He is doing. I know with Him, she will come right on time!

Hope this empowers you to have faith in everything!

Have a good week!

Happy Holidays!

Happy Thursday!

I've been a bit MIA from the blog scene this week. Enjoying the holidays as much as possible..

one. Me and A doing last minute shopping for gifts earlier this week. We braved the crowds and came out alive. I always say I won't do it again next year, but I'm going to just classify myself as a last minute shopper.
two. Waffle fries and seasoned sour cream at Granite City. Yum.
three. My mom got Layla a cute set for her crib for Christmas. One of the many additions Layla got for Christmas. She is beyond spoiled and not even here yet.
four & five. For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you would have noticed I've taken out the twists. The first photo is immediately following, and the second is after washing and straightening. Such a fun (-_-) process! I feel like I look more mommy-ish!
six. Enjoying hot apple cider I got the k-cups as a gift for my Keurig for Christmas from Momma Bear. Absolutely Yum.

Hope you are all enjoying the time spent with family and friends this week! And next week we will again be with loved ones to bring in the New Year!
Aw, I love this season! I am so thankful to Jesus for what He has done for me to live such a fulfilling life! I have amazing family and friends and am so thankful for everyone in my life!

The Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How Of Life: A lesson in Love Part 3

Happy Sunday!
Baby Layla.

Today, we start into a new week. An exciting week for many as we are traveling to and fro and get to gather together with family and friends towards the end of the week to eat turkey! If you haven't figured it out, I am talking about Thanksgiving! :)

I love Thanksgiving, and not only because of all of the great dishes that the family whips up! I love it because its a time that all of my family can get together and just spend time being a family together. Its a time where I can truly count my blessings and this year I am going to do something I have never done on Thanksgiving. I am going to make it a point to start the day off by thanking Jesus for what He is and what He has done for me this year.
My family.

I have so much to be thankful for, and so does each and everyone of you. Even through the good and bad times, you are still alive! You have been able to see another beautiful day in a land that God has given us authority and dominion over :) It is our choice to choose happiness, and I choose happiness and thankfulness today and everyday! No matter what life throws at you, you can declare to think positive and be happy through it all. I am thankful for that refreshed outlook on life.

There was a time when I was depressed
and did not want to continue my life. I felt like if I left this earth it wouldn't matter.
My problems and thoughts were drowning me.
I felt anxiety, hurt, pain and self loathing. I felt that no matter if I took a step ahead, I was always taking so many steps backwards. I felt that nothing would ever change, so what was the point. I didn't know what to do or where to turn. I was so focused on myself and my problems that I did not see what Jesus had in store for me.

He had a better life for me, a plan to take me from the lowest of lows and put me right on top. A plan to show me that he could be the
WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, WHY, and HOW in my life.
That if I ever had a question or wanted to know the direction to go - that He could show me.
Oh how I am thankful that He chose me.

I now understand that I have the choice to take control of my life and situations. I do not have to dwell in negative situations or continue in darkness.
I can do great things with Jesus. He has shown me that by showing His true and divine love to others, I can be the light in this dark world.
By taking the focus off of me and my struggles, and lending a hand to a friend, family member, or stranger I can prosper. By allowing this life I live to not be about Jena and her plans and about Jesus and His plans - I can see everlasting life. I can show truth to others, and even when things look hard I can still continue to be a bright shining light to others.

How many of you enjoy when someone tells you that they love you?
Or someone does something nice and special for you, just because?
Or in a time of need someone can have the right words to say to you, to make you feel uplifted and hopeful?

That is what Jesus is to me. And He is showing me how to take the focus off of me and be that to others!

Your challenge:
I challenge each and everyone of you readers to take this challenge.
Every time when you are feeling negative, and anxious about your problems and struggles. Every time when you find yourself getting angry or upset, or dwelling on the bad things.
Take the focus off of you for a moment and do something nice or special for someone else. Help out that friend in need, or give of yourself or time to someone. Lend a shoulder to lean on or an ear to listen.

I promise you, it will make you realize that there is more to this life than what you see in front of you. There is a bigger picture and it all starts with love.

Hope this is inspiring you and preparing you for a great week!

Have a good day!

The Cheese Stands Alone.

Happy Monday!

This weekend was so cold out! So me and A decided to do a few errands, and cozied up in the house. Again another weekend where Redbox won as the the activity of the night - Iron Man 3, and I cooked up some good food.

In fact, I decided to make some homemade baked macaroni and cheese. Any one that knows me, knows that is my absolute favorite thing to eat. I LOVE cheese. LOVE it. I'm the type that goes to the fridge for a snack and grabs a stick of cheese.

Yum, so good.

So when my mom would make mac & cheese as a side to go with dinner growing up, I would help her make it just so I could eat bits of cheese that didn't make it in the pan :) Haha! And I was so spoiled with baked macaroni and cheese, I didn't even know you could make mac & cheese from a box until middle school. I lived off easy mac containers in college, the first year away from home; but alas I have returned to the real stuff. The homemade, 4+ cheeses and oven baked, gooey goodness.

The good stuff.

For those of you who do not share in my love for mac&cheese, I apologize.
Actually, I do NOT apologize. How can you not love cheese? Who are you?

Anywho,
hope this brought a smile to your face to start the week out right!

P.S. What's your favorite type of cheese!?

Weekend Recipe [R]ecap

This weekend I spent a lot of time in the kitchen. My mom and sisters would laugh, because they are always making fun of me being hungry all the time. I can't help it, my baby girl has me gaining an appetite lately!
Now since me and A have been working on saving money and preparing for the new baby, I seem to be getting more experience cooking, yes me cooking haha. I am enjoying it and getting some good recipes from my mama :)
Yummy Chili
Homemade BBQ Chicken Pizza

And I'm going to share a quick recipe with you all. Me and A made Philly Cheese Steaks this weekend. I have just been craving really tasty food lately. So, we took a trip to the grocery store and got the following goodies:
What you need:
1lb of thin sliced steak meat - we used sliced ribeye *
Provolone sliced cheese (about 4 slices)
1 green pepper
1 nice size onion
4-5 brown potatoes
vegetable oil (not pictured)
1-2 small loaves of french bread (1 loaf for 2 sandwiches)
Salt/Pepper/Season salt/Garlic - whatever you use to season your meat!

*We used a 1.78 oz steak, but had meat leftover for another 1-2 sandwiches

To prep, chop your green pepper and onions long and thin, like you would for fajitas. You will also want to slice your potatoes into nice size pieces for fries. They don't have to be perfect, they will taste good either way!
Now you can soak your potatoes as some people do, which helps them fry better and makes them more crispy. Or if you are lazy like me, you can just let them soak while you heat up your vegetable oil. Yes, heat that oil up to about 300 degrees. Make sure you dry off your fries before placing in the pot, and let them fry about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown.
Fry in batches, you can put the finished ones in the oven to keep warm (put oven on 300 to keep warm).
In the meantime, place a dab of oil in a pan and saute your green peppers, onions, and garlic. I like mine to be carmelized, so I cook them a bit longer, but its up to you :). Once done to your liking, remove from pan and place in microwave to keep warm.

Next its time to cook your meat. Since you have very thin sliced meat, it will cook quickly. Again a little oil in the pan, and brown the meat on med/high heat, about 2-3 minutes on side one, then when you flip it over to the 2nd side- add your peppers/onions back to the mix and top with the provolone cheese.
Turn down the pan to low heat, and cover until cheese is melted. Slice your french bread open, and load it up with yummy-ness.
Take your fries from the oven, plate it and enjoy :)

Happy Tuesday!

[W]eekend [R]ecap - Loving Fall + Third Trimester

Happy Monday!

I am officially in trimester three. EEK!!
The fall cold weather, new additions to the wardrobe, comfort food and redbox pretty much sums up the highlights of my weekend.
[one] Pot Roast. Saturday consisted of running errands, paying bills, and putting a pot roast in my slow cooker. I'm a sucker for comfort food and have really been craving it lately.
[two] New Coat. After trying on a few jackets that were in the back of my closet, I realized my baby bump is getting a little out of hand. I couldn't button or zip and I just looked ridiculous as it was 40 degrees outside. After some convincing, my mother (with my dad's help) got me this cute little green coat. It is perfect for my growing belly as the buttons stop above the belly. Perfect for trimester 3 if you ask me.
[three] We live in leaves. Got an email from the HOA contact that they will not be getting rid of our leaves until late in the season so that they only have to come out once. My yard is a child's playground. I thought of getting those jack-o-lantern garbage bags to clean up a bit - but who am I kidding everytime I bend over I am out of breath. LOL I could totally make A do it, but he'd just say let's wait for the HOA to take care of it. For now, we live in leaves.
[four] Redbox. I have been wanting to rent The Great Gatsby for some time, and A wanted to see After Earth so we opted to stop at the local redbox for a cozy night in. Um, love Leonardo Di Caprio and although After Earth wasn't my choice I laugh at how much Jaden Smith looks like his father. Overall both good movies for the night.
[five] Apple picking season. Our apple tree bloomed this year and all of the local animals are living in my yard. LOL. We generally don't eat too many, but I'm debating squeezing some time in this week to make an apple crisp. Love apple crisp.
[six] Steve Madden. Been bugging my mom to give me this handbag when she was done using it. Finally annoyed her to the point she handed it over. She won't miss it, she's a handbag queen. I am a happy gal.

Overall, pretty successful weekend!
What did you get into this weekend?

P.S.I apologize for the delay on the giveaway winner, but we will be announcing this week! So stay tuned!

[w]eekend [r]ecap v.4

Happy Monday!

Hope all is well!
Here's a few photos to recap my weekend:

one] I attended a Women's Luncheon on Saturday, which was really fun. There was a poetry reading, a fashion show, and even a comedy skit. It was very encouraging for women following Christ!
two] enjoyed a little mexican eatery down on eat street in South Mpls at Little Tijuana's for my Big Sis, Tenisha's B-day! This little hidden gem is a mix of all things eclectic and mexican food, Yum!
three] My new obsession for the week was Sanpellegrino's Limonata. Since I can't have my fix of cherry coke, I need something with carbonation and no caffeine. Oh and if you hadn't noticed new hair. ;)
four] Found myself rummaging Target shelves looking to spruce things about around the house after doing some cleaning. Just getting a few ideas..
five] My big sis at dinner for her birthday! She is a very encouraging woman, who can always put a smile on my face. I am so grateful to call her my sister! I love you woman!
six] We need a new area rug, I was checking out Target's assortment. I want something plush that I can lay on and sleep on, any ideas on places to look?
seven] Dinner at Little Tijuana's - Yum, enchiladas and tacos.
eight] Quick Bump Update - My baby is now the size of a papaya :) Haha
nine] A little Patrick Swayze love and art on the walls at Little Tijuana's

Overall, the weekend was great. Enjoyed spending time with friends and family. It's getting a bit colder out here in MN (although this week its supposed to be in the 70's). So I will have an outfit post or two for you this week to showcase cute maternity fall wear! Also, a cool post discussing what true love is.. So stay tuned this week for those.

Have a good week!
