Weekend Recipe [R]ecap

This weekend I spent a lot of time in the kitchen. My mom and sisters would laugh, because they are always making fun of me being hungry all the time. I can't help it, my baby girl has me gaining an appetite lately!
Now since me and A have been working on saving money and preparing for the new baby, I seem to be getting more experience cooking, yes me cooking haha. I am enjoying it and getting some good recipes from my mama :)
Yummy Chili
Homemade BBQ Chicken Pizza

And I'm going to share a quick recipe with you all. Me and A made Philly Cheese Steaks this weekend. I have just been craving really tasty food lately. So, we took a trip to the grocery store and got the following goodies:
What you need:
1lb of thin sliced steak meat - we used sliced ribeye *
Provolone sliced cheese (about 4 slices)
1 green pepper
1 nice size onion
4-5 brown potatoes
vegetable oil (not pictured)
1-2 small loaves of french bread (1 loaf for 2 sandwiches)
Salt/Pepper/Season salt/Garlic - whatever you use to season your meat!

*We used a 1.78 oz steak, but had meat leftover for another 1-2 sandwiches

To prep, chop your green pepper and onions long and thin, like you would for fajitas. You will also want to slice your potatoes into nice size pieces for fries. They don't have to be perfect, they will taste good either way!
Now you can soak your potatoes as some people do, which helps them fry better and makes them more crispy. Or if you are lazy like me, you can just let them soak while you heat up your vegetable oil. Yes, heat that oil up to about 300 degrees. Make sure you dry off your fries before placing in the pot, and let them fry about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown.
Fry in batches, you can put the finished ones in the oven to keep warm (put oven on 300 to keep warm).
In the meantime, place a dab of oil in a pan and saute your green peppers, onions, and garlic. I like mine to be carmelized, so I cook them a bit longer, but its up to you :). Once done to your liking, remove from pan and place in microwave to keep warm.

Next its time to cook your meat. Since you have very thin sliced meat, it will cook quickly. Again a little oil in the pan, and brown the meat on med/high heat, about 2-3 minutes on side one, then when you flip it over to the 2nd side- add your peppers/onions back to the mix and top with the provolone cheese.
Turn down the pan to low heat, and cover until cheese is melted. Slice your french bread open, and load it up with yummy-ness.
Take your fries from the oven, plate it and enjoy :)

Happy Tuesday!

Inspiration: Following Instruction.

Late night posting session right here. I've been meaning to sit down and write something to you all, all day, but it seems now I've got the time! So there you have it :)

Lately I have been learning a lot of great principles of life. Food for the soul, things to live by. Ever since I chose to live for Jesus, He has taught me many principles. Like, it's important to write things down so that you can easily recall them. I started by always writing down conversations we would have, or things that He would bring to me. I keep them in my handy iPhone; I can pull them up at anytime I need to be reminded of God's words to me and where my focus needs to be.

One of the first things Jesus revealed to me is:

We are not always given the things we want, when we want them, because we are not always ready or prepared for them.

Sometimes if we are not wise and watchful, we can put ourselves into situations we are not prepared for. God gives us instruction to keep us prepared, so that during a trial we have something to hold onto, someone to call on, and something to believe. That is why it is so important to know that Jesus, as the creator, knows all and knows what is best for us. He has this thing called life already figured out. In fact, He's got the perfect plan!

Isaiah 55:8
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways"

We are an afterthought, so we should just trust that He knows what He is doing and doesn't need our input to get there.
Proverbs 3:5-6
source

Jesus gave me an example of a young girl, let's call her Judy, that is looking for love. Judy has never been in a relationship but is in love with the idea of love. She falls for a man that is what most would define as a 'player', he is clearly not looking for a relationship but more of a good time. Everyone around her knows where this is going, but she is not ready or prepared for love, so she is blind to every clue that is thrown her way that he is not the man for her.

Now we have all probably been there at some point, falling for the wrong person, and when its all said and done and your heart is broken - you think you've lost it all. Same happened to Judy. Through this experience, and the pain, Judy realizes the strength she has inside of her and it makes her a stronger, wiser woman. She is no longer naive to all of those red flags she saw, and the next time a man like that approaches her she is not fooled by the nice smile or big muscles ;).

Well, our Jesus wants us to be able to avoid the pain. Through His instructions, we gain discernment for situations and God can open our eyes to situations. Granted some of us, like to hit our heads quite a few times before we get sick of the headaches - but our Lord gives us the opportunity to follow His instruction and get the best result EACH AND EVERY TIME. Jesus gives us so much instruction in His word to help guide us in all of life's areas.

Which leads me to another great principle that I am working on applying to my life.
Follow God's Instruction.

Proverbs 4:13
"Take fast hold of instruction, let her not go, keep her, for she is thy life."

There are directions and instructions everywhere. There are instructions for putting together the brand new baby crib that me and A are going to be buying :). There are instructions for using your shampoo; there is an instruction manual for using your brand new car (although I'm sure you never read it until there was an issue)! Everything in this world has instructions, and in order to get the result that the manufacturer is promising, you must follow the instructions. And once we are given instructions, we should know what to do...
We often feel like we can take our own way, or take shortcuts in the instructions Jesus gives us and get the same results. Its like your mechanic working on your car and taking a few short cuts, you know, leaving a few nuts and bolts out and telling you he didn't need them! You didn't need them? Are you sure, because there is probably a reason those nuts and bolts were there in the first place. There's no way you could be surprised when the car breaks down again.. LOL

So, why are we so surprised when things in life don't go as planned and we didn't follow instructions? We have to think the same way about God's word and His instruction. If we don't follow it accordingly, we don't really have the right to complain to God about something that fell through or didn't work out as planned. Jesus truly wants the best for us, and there is a formula to how we receive that.
FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.
But alas,
What's so great about Jesus is that, He is our father. And like my natural father, He loves me regardless and He only wants the absolute best for me. When He sees we are persistent in trying to please Him, He will do great things for us because of His divine love for us. While at times, we may have to pay the price for not following instructions completely; He still loves us and if we ask Him to give us understanding of  His word, He will help us with it, and we can cast all of our cares and worries to Him and He will take care of them all! He will heal our hearts, He will show us a way out of what seems like a dead end.

He's so amazing and that's why I love Him more each and everyday! :)

Hope this gives you some good inspiration for the weekend! Instructions are important and are truly words to live by.

WIWW + Bump Update + Giveaway Winner!

Happy "B"ump Day!

Hope the middle of the week is treating you well today.
First off, I would like to announce our giveaway winner - Monica @ Smudged Colors!
Congrats and thanks for entering!
Please remember there will be giveaways in the future so stay tuned to see what other goodies I have in store coming up!

Over the Weekend...
If you follow me on instagram, you might have noticed that I received a little free surprise gift from my friends at Silver Jeans. :) A denim vest, in all its glory. I've been telling A that I wanted one and was planning on thrifting and making my own.. But not anymore!

So of course, I could not wait to try this baby on! Love the stud detail on the back of it. Of course, I cannot close it because my little baby girl is in the way. In fact she is growing out of control right now...

Speaking of the Bump...

How far along? 27 Weeks 2 Days
Total weight gain: A whopping 7 lbs. However, I lost weight in the first trimester because of all the morning sickness. Doc says they look at the overall pregnancy, but I should start ramping up my calorie intake! I can do that!
Maternity clothes?  Not yet. But let me tell you in the last week the belly has been growing. So I might be stuck in tights and sweaters for the rest of the pregnancy and I am totally okay with it!
Stretch marks? Not seeing too any on my tummy, but I have some on my chest as that grew very quickly!!
Sleep: Not great. I wake up 2-3 times a night for the bathroom and I just can't seem to get comfortable some nights. I'm looking for a good pregnancy/body pillow.
Miss anything? The one thing I do miss about the fall is having a spiked apple cider, or a glass of wine every now and then.
Food cravings: I am craving sweets lately. I never liked sweets too much growing up, I'm not big on chocolate and just never understood all the sugar.. But that has been changing ever since I've been pregnant. This is a very bad thing. LOL.
Anything making you queasy or sick?  Thankfully no!
Gender: Girl :)
Labour signs: I believe I had my first Braxton Hicks contraction, which was sort of weird - but no pain so it was okay. Ahhh!! I'm getting closer to the real deal here shortly.
Symptoms: Fatigue, hormonal acne, backaches. For the most part I am just starting to feel uncomfortable all the time.
Belly button in or out? My belly button is starting to look flat which means it may be on the verge or poking out.
Wedding rings on or off: Still On.
Happy or moody most of the time: Moody. I feel like I've been moody this entire 6 month journey -_-
Looking forward to: Finally starting the nursery & we get to see our little bean in about 4 weeks! Can't wait to get a better view of my baby girl :)

Enjoy Your Day!

[W]eekend [R]ecap - Loving Fall + Third Trimester

Happy Monday!

I am officially in trimester three. EEK!!
The fall cold weather, new additions to the wardrobe, comfort food and redbox pretty much sums up the highlights of my weekend.
[one] Pot Roast. Saturday consisted of running errands, paying bills, and putting a pot roast in my slow cooker. I'm a sucker for comfort food and have really been craving it lately.
[two] New Coat. After trying on a few jackets that were in the back of my closet, I realized my baby bump is getting a little out of hand. I couldn't button or zip and I just looked ridiculous as it was 40 degrees outside. After some convincing, my mother (with my dad's help) got me this cute little green coat. It is perfect for my growing belly as the buttons stop above the belly. Perfect for trimester 3 if you ask me.
[three] We live in leaves. Got an email from the HOA contact that they will not be getting rid of our leaves until late in the season so that they only have to come out once. My yard is a child's playground. I thought of getting those jack-o-lantern garbage bags to clean up a bit - but who am I kidding everytime I bend over I am out of breath. LOL I could totally make A do it, but he'd just say let's wait for the HOA to take care of it. For now, we live in leaves.
[four] Redbox. I have been wanting to rent The Great Gatsby for some time, and A wanted to see After Earth so we opted to stop at the local redbox for a cozy night in. Um, love Leonardo Di Caprio and although After Earth wasn't my choice I laugh at how much Jaden Smith looks like his father. Overall both good movies for the night.
[five] Apple picking season. Our apple tree bloomed this year and all of the local animals are living in my yard. LOL. We generally don't eat too many, but I'm debating squeezing some time in this week to make an apple crisp. Love apple crisp.
[six] Steve Madden. Been bugging my mom to give me this handbag when she was done using it. Finally annoyed her to the point she handed it over. She won't miss it, she's a handbag queen. I am a happy gal.

Overall, pretty successful weekend!
What did you get into this weekend?

P.S.I apologize for the delay on the giveaway winner, but we will be announcing this week! So stay tuned!

Apple Cider.

Happy Tuesday.

Today was a test to stay positive. Rainy, gloomy, and busy at work. Perfect day to stay in the bed and cuddle.

I got off and went straight to Caribou for a pick me up.

Apple Cider. Yum. Made me smile :)

WIWW + Lesson in Love 2

Happy Hump Day!

Lately I have been reminiscing on my post about having true divine love (read here).
At 25 weeks pregnant, I often catch myself being moody.
I am learning that although the hormones are raging, true love doesn't have moods. It works off of principals. It suffers long - which I can say this 9 month journey to motherhood has been quite the change. However, through the journey - true divine love is still kind.

I was shown an example of how I need to show divine love, from my hubs, A. I came home at night after hanging with my girlfriends. He woke up as I got into bed, and I started to talk to him about my fears of childbirth. He was sleeping, but at that point my pregnancy hormones were taking over and I felt as if even though he said 'everything will be okay,' that he was not being as sincere as I needed him to be.
I immediately blew up at him. Calling him rude and insincere to my feelings. Finally we talked it out, and he apologized for not truly being able to relate or understand what I am going through. The next morning, I had completely forgot about my freak out - as most women can relate!
I'll admit sometimes we just get worked up, and the next moment we are fine :)

A called me from work as I was getting ready to leave the house to start my day. He said he just wanted to check up on me, because he felt really bad that I had felt that way and wanted to ensure me that he is always here for me no matter what. I felt horrible for the way I treated him, and apologized but he insisted he was wrong and would work on trying to understand the way I feel - even if he was dead asleep in the middle of the night...
grey/black dress. burlington. necklace. heartbreaker. studded arm band. F21.tights. TJ Maxx. Boots. Gifted.

Wow, what a great example Jesus had shown me of how true divine love works. I have often gotten angry with people over a miscommunication and held a grudge or said I will definitely not be the first one to apologize. I have wished bad things to people to hope they would feel just as crummy as I felt. I have showed my love through my emotions, versus showing an unconditional divine love built on principals like God's love.

I am reminded again of 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love suffereth long, and is kind; Love envieth not; Love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evilRejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all thingsLove never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

What I learned and am working on is:
Love suffers long, and is still kind - Even when things are not pretty and not going my way, still showing kindness and enduring it with a smile.  It is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil. - Being slow to react to situations that I do not like. Controlling my emotions, and not wishing bad feelings towards others.
I challenge you to do the same this week and let me know the results you get with it!
