Focus + 12 Days of Christmas - Day 3

Happy Hump Day!

It's been awhile since I've really written here on the blog. I have been dealing with a busy schedule and major distractions. There are so many things that can distract us in today's world. From worldly issues, to personal issues our focus is thrown to and fro throughout the day. Jesus has been showing my many things about distractions and how to combat them and I would love to share with you.

One of the first things he showed me was about focus. For example, when taking a photo you have to center the focus somewhere on the image you are trying to capture. You can't get everything in the shot crystal clear. Something will always be out of focus. Even when driving a vehicle we rely on our peripheral view to share information to our brains, but I know there has been a time or two that I have missed something because frankly, it was not in focus.

Focus is very important, and what you are putting your focus on matters even more. When applying this to your life, you should ask yourself - Where is my focus right now? Where is my focus today? Where is my focus this month?

Sometimes we often convince ourselves that we are focused on the right things when we aren't. Have you ever been through a tough time? Have you ever gone through it wearily, crying each day, unsure of what lies ahead, so fearful and distraught? I have. Have you ever been through a difficult time for maybe even for the 2nd time? Head held a bit higher, hopeful of what is to come, and more positive of where the situation may take you? I have.

The difference in those two scenarios is where my focus was. If I was crying and worrying everyday, my focus would be on my issue. If I was hopeful and positive my focus would be on Christ, the good things in my life, and not pinpointed on my issue. With practice we are all capable of shifting our focus. We should always think on good things (Phillipians 4:8). It is so important for our mental health.

Don't let distractions get you off balance. The issues of this world, will always stand. We live in a fallen world. Things will not always go right according to what we see with our eyes. But if we stand firmly on the word of God no matter what it looks like, it will all work out for us. If we keep our focus on Jesus - it allows us to focus on the truth, on life, on love, on good things. Which in turn brings a significant change in our lives! Keep distractions at a minimum, focus on Christ! :)

How do you stay focused and avoid distractions?

Warriors + By Faith Accessories + Giveaway

Happy Friday!

"I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh."
-Acts 2:17

I have been getting back into the swing of things here at I'm Perfectly Human. I finally feel on top of things again, which is a great feeling. I am excited for this weekend. Tonight I am changing the hair up a bit - remember when I talked about doing an ombre to my bob? Well, it was an epic fail - that's why you have not seen any photos. Ha! But tonight I am going to be getting extensions back and doing an ombre so we will see how it turns out!! :)

And then tomorrow morning I am going to be attending a women's breakfast with my church, which will be lovely. It is a little bittersweet for me because tomorrow is also the Annual Lupus Walk here in the Twin Cities and I am going to miss it this year. But at least I am missing it for a good reason! I'll be back in full effect next year with encouraging t-shirts and words for those facing that chronic illness.

Speaking of Lupus, I wanted to talk to you all about it and my journey. I've discussed it before but it was interesting as yesterday I was reading this article on the Women of Faith website from Christine Caine called The C Word. She was talking about her diagnosis with cancer and how God saw her through it all. And it just lit my spirit up to hear her honest emotions of things she experienced through it all and how God delivered her out. There is something so touching about honesty. When dealing with an illness, there are a lot of emotions that you will feel.

But in reading this something really stood out to me about what she said she did when she was going through it all. She said that she didn't surround herself with "worriers" but instead with "warriors." People that were going to speak positivity and the things of Christ into her life. People that were not going to allow her to sulk in a bad day, but lift her up and continue to exclaim good things over her life.

It got me thinking.
"He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength."
-Isaiah 40:29

Ever since I started to live my life for Christ something did change in my journey with Lupus. I used to feel so alone and hopeless. I used to worry all the time about what if it got worse.
I played the what if game a lot.

I remember always feeling like I was on a roller-coaster. It was a roller-coaster of thoughts and I really needed God to lift me off of this roller-coaster and place my feet on stable ground, and that is His word and what He says about me and my life in Him.

Understanding His promises put me in a different space with this disease. It allowed me to see myself through His eyes, understand that there is a silver lining in this. There is beauty to be seen in my story, and ways that this could be touching and helping someone right now. I received faith, by hearing His word. By saying His word out loud to myself, by surrounding myself with those that spoke and continue to speak life, health and positivity into my very being. I know that He is my healer and I know that I am able to see each and every day because of Him. I thank him for all that He is and does for me and I believe in the power in the name, Jesus.
I am so thankful for those warriors that continue to walk by faith and sow it into others.

Which leads me into this month's sponsor, Shannita @ By Faith Accessories.
"By Faith Accessories was inspired by a time in my life when I was going through a lot. My faith was being tested, but just when the thought to give up would cross my mind. I would see an encouraging sentiment, a bible passage on a piece of clothing or jewelry along with a smile and/or hello.  And I would be reminded of my faith also that Jesus was with me."

Test of Character + Francesca's $230 Giveaway!

Happy Monday!
Hope you all had a beautiful weekend and enjoyed the first weekend of June! I am so happy that the summer is finally here and although I have been super busy, I am grateful for each beautiful day I have been given :)

Have you ever been tested in your character?
I mean, truly, put into a situation where you had to choose whether to wallow in self pity or to hold your head high and take the bull by the horns?
This morning, I was at my wits end.
'A' called me to tell me he was having car trouble and we are going to be down to one vehicle until it gets fixed. My daughter turned from being so playful to completely fussy as soon as it was time to get ready for work. Between crying, trying to get all of my things together, and getting out of the house on time - I failed miserably. I even knocked over my favorite vase and it crushed into pieces.
Luckily, my little sis helped to calm the baby so I could put on my shoes in silence.
As I got into my car, now running late, I realized I needed gas.
Finally getting on the road to work, texting my boss that I was running late, again, I realized that I had left my work laptop at the house. I turned all the way around and arrived at home to discover it not there. Suddenly, I remembered I had left it in the trunk of 'A''s vehicle, which was at his job a couple cities over.

In my moment of weakness, and feeling overwhelmed - I looked in the mirror, dug down deep, and I said,
"No, I am not going to let this situation steal my joy."
It was one of the hardest things for me to not become overwhelmed and get emotional this morning. But I remembered that every time I had let myself get down about my situation, it never solved the issues. My situation was still the same and although it didn't look pretty, crying surely wouldn't help.

Have you ever been here?
Life's matters and situations trying to beat you and tear you down. In these moments, I have found it sobering to truly know Christ. To understand, that He does not call us to be strong in these moments. He wants us to lean on Him for strength. "I can do all things, through you Jesus," I whispered to myself as I pulled up to work. I have held on to a few scriptures this morning that are literally holding my head up. Keeping my focus on God, my father, who gives me true joy.

Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
-Romans 5:3-5

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
-Romans 8:28

I hope that this brings encouragement to those of you who are feeling under all that is being thrown your way. You can make it out with Christ on your side! Joy comes in the morning!

And to celebrate a life of Joy - I am teaming up with 19 other bloggers to offer you a pretty cool giveaway for Francesca's Collection to get some new digs! I know that whenever I have on something new it automatically puts a big smile on my face!
