Beauty of a Rainbow

The beauty of a rainbow.
The symbolism that stands within it.
In the middle of a storm when you are reaching, holding on to a glimpse of hope, a promise.
The confirmation that a rainbow brings when its all over.
It cannot be touched, but you know its there, because in the right angle you can see it.
How incredible for us to behold one of life's mysterious wonders that God created.
A reminder of His promise to never flood the earth again.
A reminder that in the midst of your personal storm, it will not take you over.
It will not flood you, it too shall pass.
The beauty of a rainbow.

Happy Wednesday!

All The Good There Is.

Happy Monday!

What a beautiful weekend.
It was spent at home, sitting around in pjs - watching movies, and running errands on Saturday. It ended with church and family dinner on Sunday and although I wanted to fit in some girl time; I truly couldn't complain. One of the movies I watched this weekend was About Time, with Rachel McAdams. Have you seen it or heard of it? Its about a guy that all the men in his family can travel back in time. Sounds a bit "sci-fi" - but its more of a family drama/comedy and I really enjoyed it. If you are a love story or family drama sap - I would highly suggest it for your next movie night.

There was something that stuck with me after I finished the movie.
It made me think about a lot of things...
The ability to travel in time and change the way things have gone in the past would be pretty cool, right?
But where would it leave you today? There's no doubt it would change your current state of being. I am happy with where I am and the path that has brought me here. What about you?

There was also a piece in the movie that focuses on cherishing every moment of every day, the good with the bad. Now I have heard this time and time again, but something amazing happened as I sat and watched it being explored in the scenes. Tears started to flow and I started to speak to Jesus. I thanked him for the grace and mercy he has bestowed on us. I thanked him for allowing my eyes to be open to the good he has imputed into every portion of our lives everyday, as every good and perfect gift comes from above.

So often we go through our days with our personal lens focused on all of the wrong things:
The car that won't start,
the crying baby,
the mean boss,
the rain that ruined our hair,
the spat we had with our spouse,
the lunch that we forgot on the kitchen counter.

But instead we should challenge ourselves to put on a new pair of glasses and see all of the good that is present in every moment of our days:
The kind woman at the bus stop,
the innocence in our little ones,
the caring coworker that brought in treats for everyone,
the rain that watered our earth,
the spouse that shares deep, intimate, parts of your life with you,
the cheerful lady at the cafeteria.

Closing our eyes to the negative and opening our eyes to the positive is key.
Understanding that yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not promised for many, and right now is forever is a good perspective to take in our lives (Matthew 6:34). Living today, enjoying the beauty in everything (Ecclesiastes 3:11), focusing on the good of Jesus vs. the bad in our situations is how we truly should live each and every day.

I will choose to live this way, will you?
Take the challenge.
Let go of whatever frustrations or negative thoughts are tearing you down today. Make the conscious effort to choose to focus on the good in your life and it will make you appreciate everything so much more. That's how God wants us to live!

Don't let your focus the wrong things, rob you of your time. Gain back your time by enjoying every moment like its your last and following God's will for your life. You will wind up in the best place every time by doing so.

Have a great day!

Perseverance, Not Perfection.

Happy Thursday!

The other night I heard a saying on TV and thought it was so true, so I decided to share it with you. The girl was talking about how perseverance got her to her goal in her diet and exercise and not perfection. That really stuck with me! How often do we try to be perfect in our lives, only to find out that we cannot be what this world describes as perfect.

Perseverance is key. Getting back up on the horse. Picking yourself up and trying again is truly what wins in the end. There will be hard days or trials and times where you have not followed everything to a "t", those are times to rely on your perseverance to kick in. Keep your eye on the golden prize and keep pushing.

I think its a great saying that goes along with what Jesus teaches us. Through Him we can be whole and walk boldly to the throne. No other way, not even by our own actions. Nothing we can do will ever be reason enough for us to have anything from Him. Its all Him, not our "good" works, not our prayers every night, not anything we think we have sacrificed. He is the ultimate sacrifice and has paid all of our debts in full and then some.

Understanding that we will make mistakes, and He knows that and is telling us PERSEVERANCE over PERFECTION is truly eye opening. How many of us can say that we have been told this before? It is hard to accept but it is what our King and Savior wants us to realize. Rules and laws will never be kept, there will be times we fall, but we pick ourselves up and keep chugging along!

I was inspired to make this printable below. I have also created it in a few different colors for anyone who is interested. Remember, perseverance over what our ideas of perfection.

Contentment

Happy Hump Day!

I hope the middle of the week comes with a smile!
In Minnesota it brings warmth as well. I welcome it!
Another thing I am working on welcoming is contentment.

I have never truly cared about what others thought about me, but facing daily pressures of keeping up a perfect body, job, diet, relationship, family, etc - it can become difficult to focus on what truly matters in life. Constantly relying on others for confirmation of my own self-worth is not only tiring, its unhealthy. Relying on the number of comments or the amount of likes I get on an Instagram photo to make me smile - is exactly what I must detach myself from.

Its habit to envy, become jealous, and want what I think others have. Its habit to dwell on what material things I am missing, what opportunities I have yet to see, what more I want to be doing, what more I think is necessary to be happy. Its easy to lose focus and forget the riches that are held inside of me.

Contentment: A state of happiness or satisfaction.
I am working on living with contentment.
Understanding that where I am in my life is a moment in time that should be cherished.
The journey of getting or going somewhere should be admired just as much as the destination. Its all important.

I can't wait for my daughter to start talking and walking, but I can to be content with the fact that she can't get into everything and that she only says enough babbles to make me smile. While I would love to own my own home today, I can be content in the opportunity I have right now to save up with my husband for our future. Although, I would love to be able to rock the newest pair of $800 Jimmy Choos, I can be content with the fact I can buy a new pair of shoes when I want them. Many can't.

White Blouse - My sister's closet :) - Similar here, here
Blue Zip/Cuffed Skinny Denim Jeans - Gap - Similar here, here, here
White Lace Strap Flats - Agaci - Here! on Sale $15!

I am content with who I am and where I am at today.
I am content with what I am learning. I am content with what is in my heart.
Contentment doesn't mean losing your dreams, or not reaching for the sky! Its embracing the process and dwelling in the current moment that you are in. Having joy in and through everything. When you have, and when you don't have. We can't take matters and things with us when we leave this earth.
Making the best out of our current hand is the best approach and a major key to true joy and happiness.

In what ways do you make sure you keep content?

Have a great day!

Do Life Big: 5 Steps to Increase Your Thinking

Happy Monday!

Hope your weekend was amazing. Mine was filled with celebrating the hub's birthday and spending time with family and friends! I am beyond blessed to have him in my life and I thank Jesus for allowing him to see another beautiful year on this earth. :)

I have told you all about how I sing and the desire to show you more from me has been increasing ever since I started pursuing a relationship with Christ. (Do you remember this post?) Well, I have been so preoccupied with other things that I haven't been focusing on what I vowed to do on this blog. I wanted to bring your more of me in that way. Can I tell you a little story? When I was little, about 5 or 6, I used to sing this song, "Think Big." And it has since always been a motto in my life. I have never been able to keep my thoughts or dreams in a box or down to earth. Everything I imagine is as if I am this 5 or 6 year old thinking and dreaming for the first time. Do you know how much liberty and life there is in BIG thinking? It allows you to imagine limitless, which is what Jesus wants us to believe. If He has no limits, than why is our thinking limited? Today, I am here to inspire you to think BIG. Here's 5 steps to increasing your thoughts.

one
Stop worrying.
Focusing on the negative or the chance of failure will only continue to hold you back. Fear comes from the unknown. When we are in new territory, we are unsure of what to do or how to do things - it's okay. Just like your first day on a new job, you may feel nervous of the unknown, but that feeling will leave. Feelings always change, so accept your feelings as temporary. Once you become familiar in this new territory, you will feel empowered.

two
Avoid the "case of tomorrows".
How many of you were going to start your new workout regimen tomorrow? Or begin that project you've been putting off, tomorrow? Well, tomorrow will come and go again and again if you allow it. Start today, right now. Procrastination is a huge detriment to unfulfilled dreams and purposes. Do not let it get you. If you make a mistake on day one, dust yourself off and keep going. Completely throwing in the towel and saying, I'll start tomorrow will just begin a domino effect. Start now.

three
Don't question it.
God puts things in us that we are inevitably made to do. You've been feeling you need to accomplish something, or you want to build something independently - there is a reason its burning in you. Don't question that fire, go with it. Embrace it.

four
Ignore small minds.
There will always be people who tear down your thoughts or ideas. Many of the greatest innovations came from those that persevered into the unknown to make things happen. Do you think no one ever tried to crush their thoughts, or their dreams? Expect that it will happen, and be prepared with positive thoughts to reinforce why you are doing what you are doing. It could be something as simple as "I love photography" to as complex as "I want to challenge myself to see if this is something I can accomplish."
                - Write them down and keep them with you for times when you need encouragement.
                - Speak them out loud to yourself to gain faith. Hearing it will help you believe your words.
-Look in the mirror when possible. Sometimes you need to talk to yourself.

five
Challenge your mind.
Think of the greatest thing you want to accomplish, and think even bigger. Have you ever heard the saying "Shoot for the moon, so you land on the stars?" Well, this is using a similar concept. If you are striving for above the top, you can make sure you land on top. Don't allow your thoughts to be limited by your environment. Sometimes we place ourselves in boxes and don't want to come out because it is too different than what those around us believe. They can't see your dreams, because they are YOUR dreams. Meant for you, created for your purpose. Remember that!

Have a great Monday!
